Teachers union and borrowers sue over public service loan forgiveness delays

The American Federation of Teachers and borrowers filed a proposed class action against the Education Department, alleging delays in Public Service Loan Forgiveness applications and removal of previously credited payments. The dispute concerns a program relevant to eligible university employees and graduates entering public service. Plaintiffs seek processing of applications and restoration of qualifying credit. The allegations remain unproven; any relief depends on court proceedings. The department did not respond to WBUR’s request for comment.
